Hunan's Foreign Trade Hits Over 351 Billion CNY in First Eight Months

Hunan's total import and export value reached 351.04 billion CNY in the first eight months of this year, including 213.14 billion CNY in exports and 137.9 billion CNY in imports, according to recent data from the Changsha Customs Authority.

In August, the province's total import and export value stood at 43.13 billion CNY, a year-on-year increase of 0.9%. From June to August, the province's import and export growth rates were 14.5%, 0.9%, and 0.9% respectively, achieving growth for a third consecutive month.

In early August, a Lao banana company and the Huaihua International Land Port Changhuai Cold Chain Company reached a comprehensive cooperation agreement. Through dedicated cold chain trains, the two parties transported 80 TEUs of bananas from Vientiane, Laos to Huaihua in August. In early September, an additional order of 100 TEUs of bananas was placed, establishing a stable and efficient cross-border logistics channel.

ASEAN remains Hunan's largest trading partner, and Hunan's trade with Africa continues to rank first in central and western regions of China. In the first eight months, Hunan's trade with ASEAN and Africa reached 66.64 billion CNY and 38.44 billion CNY, respectively, increasing by 15.7% and 13.2%. Trade with the European Union has achieved growth for a third consecutive month, with an increase of 12.4% in August.

During the January-August period, Changsha, Chenzhou, Zhuzhou, Changde, Huaihua, Yiyang, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, and Zhangjiajie achieved positive growth in foreign trade. Among them, Changsha's import and export value reached 186.24 billion CNY, accounting for 53.1% of the provincial total.

Exports of the "new three" products of electric vehicles, solar batteries and lithium-ion batteries saw significant growth. In the first eight months, Hunan exported mechanical and electrical products worth 122.25 billion CNY, an increase of 3.1%, accounting for 57.4% of the province's total exports. Among these, exports of construction machinery, automobiles (including chassis), and lighters grew by 3.1%, 16.2%, and 27.9%, respectively. Exports of the "new three" products—represented by electric vehicles and lithium-ion batteries—reached 12.69 billion CNY, surging by 77.8%.
